"Perhaps the most important thing to say about preservation when it is really working as it should is that it uses the past not to make us nostalgic, but to make us feel that we live in a better present, a present that has a broad reach and a great, sweeping arc.” -Paul Goldberger
This Saturday, December 12th, 9am: Join us at the Rockford Watch Factory for our first CitySmiths meetup! It’s a quick visit-15 minutes or so–but we’ll use that time to:
-Share a brief history of the building
-Distribute a handout with content from the City’s latest RFP
-Share stories or memories you have of the Factory
-Take some pictures with our This Place Matters flags, an initiative from the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Didn’t order a flag? No problem. Download and print a This Place Matters sign here.
Afterwards, we’ll walk over to Wired Cafe to warm up and talk more about the places we love in Rockford. Join us if you can. And make sure to share your photos online using the hashtag #ThisPlaceMatters. The National Trust for Historic Preservation (@SavingPlaces on most social networks) will feature some favorites…and hopefully they will feature ours as well!
